Train

Tren

Train

During the time of Porfirio Diaz in Mexico trains became the big method of transportation, and began a time of lots of railroad building.

While still a kid I had the chance to travel by train from San Luis to Mexico, a travel that on those time took between 5 to 6 hours by car, was 8 hours by train. But it was a really enjoyable experience.

Some time later the government announced that the mexican train system was broken and so in debt, that it was being disappeared.

Only a few cargo train, from mining companies still traveled. One of them even passed near to where I lived.

Today I read on the newspaper that the government wants to create projects of Interurban trains. Unfortunately those train are basically to connect Mexico City to cities really near by. But hopefully this can make the government see how good a transportation method that is, and with time new passenger trains be created, and hopefully fast like those in other countries. It would be nice to travel again by train.

Note, In Mexico there is still one passenger train, It still exist due to the touristic attraction it runs by, the Sierra Tarahumara.
